THE SECRET OF YHVH IS WITH THOSE WHO FEAR HIM

We have been looking at the mysteries, the secrets, of God and of His Kingdom.  We began with those things which can not be known; we then looked at the mystery of Israel; and the mystery of God’s will that He will gather in the fullness of times all things in Messiah.  Now we want to consider the secret of YHVH, and the secret of knowing and enjoying His secret!

Ps 25:14  The secret of Yehovah is with those who fear Him; and He will show them His covenant.
                                Something PRECIOUS and HOLY.

Is 42:6  I, Yehovah, have called You in righteousness, and will hold Your hand, and will keep You, and give You for a covenant of the people, for a Light of the nations;
Lk 22:20  In the same way He took the cup, after having dined, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is being poured out for you.

The secret of the Lord is revealed by the Father to those who fear and honor Him by faith, even against all the apparent reasons and excuses people have:

Mt 16:13-17  And coming into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked His disciples, saying, Who do men say Me to be, the Son of Man?  And they said, Some say, John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.  He said to them, But who do you say I am?   And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.  Jesus answered and said to him, You are blessed, Simon, son of Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father in Heaven.

Jn 10:22-27  And the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem, and it was winter.   And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s Porch.  Then the Jews encircled Him and said to Him, How long do you make us doubt? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.  Jesus answered them, I told you and you did not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.  But you did not believe because you are not of My sheep. As I said to you,  My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

Mt 11:25  At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank You, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the sophisticated and cunning, and revealed them to babes.

Whom do you seek to please?  Whose approval do you seek?

Pr 3:32  For the crooked man is hateful to Yehovah, but His secret is with the upright.

What is the ‘fear’ of the Lord?

In scripture, fear is used to express a filial or a slavish passion. In good men, the fear of God is a holy awe or reverence of God and his laws, which springs from a just view and real love of the divine character, leading the subjects of it to hate and shun every thing that can offend such a holy being, and inclining them to aim at perfect obedience. This is filial fear. (Noah Webster’s Dictionary)

Rom 7:12  So indeed the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good.

Isa 66:1-5  On this one will I look:  on him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My Word. . . .Hear the Word of Yehovah, you who tremble at His Word; your brothers who hated you, who cast you out for My name’s sake, said, Let Yehovah be glorified. But He will appear to your joy, and they will be ashamed.

Mt 5:3, 11-12   Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.  Blessed are you when they persecute for My sake, for so they did to the prophets who were before you.

The fear of YHVH is never a negative attribute!

Psa 19:9 (10 Heb)  The fear of Yehovah is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of Jehovah are true and righteous altogether.

Gen 20:11  And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they will kill me for my wife’s sake.

Where there is no fear of God, all manner of evil and sin is possible.

What is God looking for?

Pro 3:7-13  Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Yehovah and depart from evil.  Healing shall be to your navel and marrow to your bones.  Honor Yehovah with your substance, and with the firstfruits of all your increase;  and your barns shall be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst with new wine.   My son, do not despise the chastening of Yehovah; nor be weary with His correction;  for whom Yehovah loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.  Blessedis the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding.

Humility!

Psa 130:4  But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.

Why should we fear God?  And, let us remember, Jesus is LORD!

Mat 10:24-42  A disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.  It is enough for the disciple that he is like his master, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household?   Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, and nothing hidden which shall not be known.  What I tell you in darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear, proclaim on the housetops.  And do not fear those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.  Are not two sparrows sold for an assarion? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.  But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.  Therefore do not fear, you are of more value than many sparrows.  Then everyone who shall confess Me before men, I will confess him before My Father who is in Heaven.  But whoever shall deny Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in Heaven.  Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth. I did not come to send peace, but a sword.  For I have come to set a man against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.  And a man’s foes shall be those of his own household.  He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.  And he who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.  He who finds his life shall lose it. And he who loses his life for My sake shall find it.  He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.  He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a just one in the name of a just one will receive a just one’s reward.  And whoever shall give to one of these little ones a cup of cold water to drink, only in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, He shall in no way lose his reward.

To whom is God looking to bless with the knowledge of Him?

Mat 6:33  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.

To those whose priorities are HIS interests and the honor of HIS Name.

2Co 6:14-7:1  Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship does righteousness have with lawlessness? And what partnership does light have with darkness?  And what agreement does Christ have with Belial? Or what part does a believer have with an unbeliever?  And what agreement does a temple of God have with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, as God has said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.”  Therefore come out from among them and be separated, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing. And I will receive you  and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.  Then having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilements of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2Ti 2:15, 19  Study earnestly to present yourself approved to God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. . . . Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: “The Lord knew those who are His.” And, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity!”
Exo 20:7  You shall not take the name of Jehovah your God in vain. For Yehovah will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain.

Act 10:22, 34-46  And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man and one who fears God, and one of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear words from you.

Then Peter opened his mouth and said, Truly I see that God is no respecter of persons;  but in every nation he who fears Him and works righteousness is accepted with Him.  You know the Word which God sent to the sons of Israel, preaching the gospel of peace by Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all!);  that word which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed;  how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, and He went about doing good, and healing all those who were oppressed by the Devil, for God was with Him.  And we are witnesses of all things which He did, both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem.

They killed Him and hanged Him on a tree; but God raised Him up the third day and showed Him openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses hand-picked before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead.  And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained of God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.  All the Prophets give witness to Him, that through His name whoever believes in Him shall receive remission of sins.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those hearing the Word.  And those of the circumcision, who believed (as many as came with Peter), were astonished because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on the nations also.  For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
Isa 11:3  And He is made to ‘sniff’ with the fear of Yehovah.  And He shall not judge according to the sight of His eyes, nor decide by the hearing of His ears.

Ecc 12:13-14  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter.  Fear God, and keep His commandments.  For this is the whole duty of man.  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good, or whether evil.

Rom 1:16-2:29  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.  For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”  For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,  because the thing which may be known of God is clearly revealed within them, for God revealed it to them.  For the unseen things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being realized by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, for them to be without excuse.  Because, knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, neither were thankful. But they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  Professing to be wise, they became fools  and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves.  For they changed the truth of God into a lie, and they worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.  For this cause, God gave them up to dishonorable affections. For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature.  And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another; males with males working out shamefulness, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error.  And even as they did not think fit to have God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do the things not right,  being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; being full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, evil habits, becoming whisperers,  backbiters, haters of God, insolent, proud, braggarts, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,  undiscerning, perfidious, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful;  who, knowing the righteous order of God, that those practicing such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but have pleasure in those practicing them

Therefore you are without excuse, O man, everyone who judges; for in that in which you judge another, you condemn yourself, for you who judge do the same things.  But know that the judgment of God is according to truth on those who practice such things.  And, O man, the one judging those who do such things, and practice them, do you think this, that you shall escape the judgment of God?  Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, and the forbearance and long-suffering, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?  But according to your hardness and your impenitent heart, do you treasure up wrath for yourself in a day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,  who will render to each according to his works;  indeed to those who with patience in good work are seeking for glory, and honor, and incorruptibility, everlasting life.  But to those who indeed disobeying the truth out of self-seeking, and obeying unrighteousness, will be anger and wrath,  tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man who has worked out evil; of the Jew first, and also of the Greek.  But He will give glory, honor and peace to every man who works good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.  For there is no respect of faces with God.  For as many as sinned without Law will also perish without Law. And as many as have sinned within Law shall be judged through Law.

For it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.  For when the nations, who do not have the Law, do by nature the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law unto themselves;  who show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and the thoughts between one another accusing or even excusing one another,  in a day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.  Behold, you are called a Jew, and rest in the Law, and boast in God;  and know His will and approve the things excelling, being instructed out of the Law;  and persuading yourselves to be a guide of the blind, a light to those in darkness;  an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who have the form of knowledge and of the truth in the Law.  Therefore the one teaching another, do you not teach yourself? The one preaching not to steal, do you steal?  The one saying not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? The one detesting idols, do you rob temples?

You who boast in Law, do you dishonor God through breaking the Law?  For the name of God is blasphemed among the nations because of you, as it is written.  For circumcision truly profits if you keep the Law, but if you are a transgressor of the Law, circumcision becomes uncircumcision.  If then the uncircumcision keeps the ordinances of the Law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?  And the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the Law, shall it not judge you, who through letter and circumcision become transgressors of the Law?  For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that outwardly in flesh;  but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart; in spirit and not in letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God.

True revival brings the fear of God’s Name!

Rev 11:15-19  And the seventh angel sounded. And there were great voices in Heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ. And He will reign forever and ever.  And the twenty-four elders sitting before God on their thrones, fell on their faces and worshiped God,  saying, We thank You, O Lord God Almighty, who are, and who was, and who is coming, because You took Your great power and reigned.  And the nations were full of wrath, and Your wrath came, and the time of the judging of the dead, and to give the reward to Your servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to the ones fearing Your name, to the small and to the great, and to destroy those destroying the earth.  And the temple of God was opened in Heaven, and there was seen in His temple the ark of His covenant, and there occurred lightnings and voices, and thunders and an earthquake, and a great hail.

Rev 15:1-4  And I saw another sign in Heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels with the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.  And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire. And those who had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.  And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty, just and true are Your ways, O King of saints.  Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You only are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, for Your righteousnesses were made known.
