Russia has attacked Ukraine in the largest assault in Europe since WW2. Russia’s leader Vladimir Putin claims that there is no such sovereign nation-state of Ukraine, that it actually belongs to Russia, who ‘lost’ it when the United States and the European NATO countries defeated the former Soviet Union in the “Cold War” in 1991.
Putin wants Ukraine back under his and Russian control. He has also threatened any country who would dare to intervene with consequences which they have never seen before. “Russia first”. China has said that Russia is an independent sovereign nation and can do what it wants. China will certainly then choose to act similarly and take back Taiwan, which they claim is not a sovereign nation, but belongs to China. International law determined that Ukraine became a sovereign nation after the Cold War. International law has been very ambiguous as to whether Taiwan is an independent nation separate from China. But if China says, “no”, then it reserves for itself the right to act as it is approving of Putin and Russia: to do what it wants.
Ever since the Balfour Declaration in 1917, and the San Remo Conference in 1920, with affirmation from the League of Nations in 1922, and from the United Nations in 1947, Israel declared and was recognized as a sovereign nation in 1948. The Arab countries never accepted that and subsequent international law upholding those “facts on the ground”, including historical international laws governing war and territorial loss and acquisition.
The Palestinian Authority (the PLO) declared its independence in 1988, and received UN General Assembly observer status in 2012 as the “State of Palestine”. It is not a sovereign nation, nor ever has been. The PA — along with Hamas and other Islamic jihadi entities — seek the eradication of the sovereign nation-state of Israel in their charters and by their actions.
Iran is well on its way to becoming a nuclear state (with a lot of help from the United States), as it seeks to “do what it wants” as an independent sovereign nation. “Iran first”, we could say. China would seem to agree. Will any country be able to stop Iran?
Should Israel ever, as an independent sovereign nation, choose to exercise its right to “do whatever it wants” to secure and to govern its legal borders granted by the Gentile world powers, and gained “lawfully” through wars against her, will China, Russia, Iran allow that?!
The day will come when all of the rulers of the Earth will need to give an account to the King of kings, the ruler of the kings of the Earth. The God of Israel has severely warned them to kiss the Son, lest He be angry. (Ps 2:10-12; Rev 1:5; 6:12-17)
Some prayer points for God to bring forth good from this evil:
1. for God’s mercies in the midst of the horrors of war and on assaults and invasions between nations;
2. for unity and love among the believers in both countries, for the sake of the name of Messiah Yeshua/Christ Jesus;
3. that many Jews from Ukraine and other countries will immigrate to Israel;
4. that many believers in Jesus/Yeshua will strengthen their relationship with Him — YHVH of Hosts/Armies — and in the hope of His return;
5. that many will repent and believe the gospel, and be delivered from the kingdom of darkness and brought into the kingdom of light;
6. thank and praise God, for He is good, and His lovingkindness is forever!
