Heavy Negev Rains Into June

The rainy season in Israel, especially in the southern desert region, normally ends by Passover, or sometime in April.  Between Passover and Shavuot/Pentecost we are more accustomed to hot dry winds and dust.  This year we have seen an unusually high amount of rainfall — some deadly in their effects — well into June.  This is highly unusual.  This year so far, June has seen the second highest rainfall in Israel, only behind 1992.  But the Negev has seen some historic amounts of rain during this period, and this month.

We know that many people pray for rain in Israel, and rainfall is definitely needed . . . . during the rainy season.  The blessing of God regarding rain is the right amount at the right time — not simply rain in quantities.  It is always nice to have the occasional summer rain shower to break the heat and wash off the dust from everything.
