The Scriptures Keep Us Up-to-Date — 28 July 2015

Middle East news continues to receive wide media coverage around the world.  This is no longer surprising to those who do believe that the Bible is relevant today as we witness current events and prophecies coming together more-and-more as the age draws nearer to its end.  Yehovah God, who knows the end from the beginning, has told us in advance through the Scriptures, which He Himself has given in both the Old and the New Testaments, that there would be wars and rumors of wars, and that the major combatants in these wars would be in the Middle East:  in what today are primarily described as Islamic countries, with little Israel a thorn in their side.

If it were not for YHVH being the God of Israel, there would be no hope.  But because He is (praise God!), and because Yeshua/Jesus died and rose again to confirm the promises made to the fathers — Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob — then those whose trust is in the Lord have a peace which surpasses all understanding, even while we struggle in our natural selves at the increasing lawlessness in every aspect of human society.  Isn’t it ironic?:  the Jewish people want to be like gentiles (meaning, in this sense, like pagans), and have succeeded to a point that is approaching the outer limit to which God will allow (Ezek 20:32-33).  And human beings generally, although created in God’s image and likeness, choose to live without Divine human restraint, as they want to believe that they come from animals, and from a lifeless blob (that came from . . .?), to whom no accounting need be given.  A rude awakening is coming to all!

It is recommended for those interested in history and world affairs to read the books of the Prophets in the Bible.  These are prophets of YHVH, mostly Israeli.  Even Balaam, who was a false prophet (and not Israeli), despite all the truth that he spoke and was given to see, is given for our instruction and admonition.  The prophets Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah and others, speak much in what they wrote which pertain to our days.  Jesus/Yeshua the Messiah gave us God’s framework for what we are seeking to interpret in the rushing and sometimes incredible events of today’s events which are tomorrow’s history of yesterday.  This is found in His answer to His apostles and disciples regarding the time and signs of His return to restore the Kingdom of God.  The Jewish people’s miraculous survival through history, and Israel’s existence today as a miraculous nation puts things into context of what God is doing in bringing to pass His work of redemption, leading up to the powerful and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is written out in detail in the final book of Revelation.  Jesus is now unseen, seated at the right hand of the Father; but the time is coming when He will be revealed, and every eye shall see Him, whether they are glad or not!

God is not silent, and He wants all people everywhere to repent and believe the gospel:  that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.  The Holy Spirit is in the world, convicting people of their unbelief in Jesus, so that they might repent of this sin which leads to eternal judgment from the Creator of the Universe, who is also the Redeemer in His steadfast love for all mankind, despite our wickedness.  The day of God’s wrath will surely come, yet meanwhile He continues to stretch out His hand to a stubborn and stiff-necked people offering eternal salvation and life to all who come to Jesus, the Messiah/Christ and Son of God.

This remains the unchanging Good News in a world of bad news every day.  We need to sharpen our senses to hear and listen to truth, and to believe it whole-heartedly.
