Life-Span of This Generation

The United Nations estimate a global average life expectancy for men and women together of 72.6 years for 2019 – the global average today is higher than in any country back in 1950. According to the UN estimates the country with the best health in 1950 was Norway with a life expectancy of 72.3 years.

Israel’s average life expectancy in 1950 was 68.2 years; currently, in November, 2021,, it had increased to 83.2 years.

Israel, despite all her wars and intense conditions of life, is ranked 12th among the nations of the world in life expectancy.  Once again we can see that God, by His grace and covenant faithfulness, is still with Israel, even as He works to bring them to return to Him with a broken heart and contrite spirit in heart-felt thanksgiving and praise and worship.  Israel as a re-established nation in its land is currently 73.5 years.

The Messiah Jesus, Son of God, has told us that the generation that sees the fig tree blossom will see the end of the age, culminating in His glorious return to a people He has caused to return to YHVH, God of Israel.

Moses wrote some 3400 years ago, by the Spirit of Messiah/Christ that was in him, about the life-span of humans in our day, and of our need for the living God:

90  A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

You turn man to destruction,
And say, “Return, O children of men.”
For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it is past,
And like a watch in the night.
You carry them away like a flood;
They are like a sleep.
In the morning they are like grass which grows up:
In the morning it flourishes and grows up;
In the evening it is cut down and withers.

For we have been consumed by Your anger,
And by Your wrath we are terrified.
You have set our iniquities before You,
Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.
For all our days have passed away in Your wrath;
We finish our years like a sigh.
10 The days of our lives are seventy years;
And if by reason of strength they are eighty years,
Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow;
For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11 Who knows the power of Your anger?
For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath.
12 So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

13 Return, O YHVH!
How long?
And have compassion on Your servants.
14 Oh, satisfy us early with Your lovingkindness,
That we may rejoice and be glad all our days!
15 Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us,
The years in which we have seen evil.
16 Let Your work appear to Your servants,
And Your glory to their children.
17 And let the beauty of YHVH our God be upon us,
And establish the work of our hands for us;
Yes, establish the work of our hands.”
