Microburst Storms Israel – 27 Oct 2015

The country was inundated with heavy rains, wind, hail, and havoc on Sonday. The first storm of the winter (the clocks were also turned back that same day to standard time) caught everybody by storm! Not that the rains weren’t forecast, but the intensity of the weather was not. Even as I write on Tuesday late afternoon, our daughter in Raanana, whose car windshield was cracked by large hailstones, says that they are still without full electricity and phone/internet service restored.

The storm was described just now on the news as a microburst, similar in some ways to a tornado, but quite different.

Driving down to Eilat that day took us 3 1/2 extra hours because of flooding of the highway in the Arava, alongside the Jordanian border.
