Former PM of Israel, Ehud Olmert, Goes to Prison – 15 Feb 2016

Today is both a sad day and a day for rejoicing, as former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert goes to prison for 19 months, convicted of bribes and obstruction of justice.

Olmert was tried and convicted of crimes going back to his days as Mayor of Jerusalem, from which he joined with Ariel Sharon in the new political party, Kadima, which Sharon formed after being elected PM as a Likud party member.  This was all done in connection with the pull-out of Israel from Gaza in 2007, a traumatizing event which still reverberates till today.

It is a sad day that a man with the responsibility of governing a nation is tried for abuse and mis-use of his position, power, and authority.  It is a day to rejoice that not even a PM is above the laws of the State of Israel.  How this sick condition of corruption from the top of the head to the soles of the feet in Israeli society should cause those who truly seek righteousness and truth to look outside the “system” — not only that of the Chosen People, but also of the world-at-large!   Although Yeshua/Jesus of Nazareth was condemned by rebels and lawless people as a criminal, yet YHVH God vindicated the Messiah and Son of God!  O that He would come and take up His rightful throne as King of Israel and of the Jews, King over all the Earth, who reigns in righteousness and justice!

Our Father in Heaven, hallowed by Your Name; Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.   Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

  1. Agreed Howard. Yes, Jesus will come again and restore the Kingdom to Israel. Many of the prophecies found in Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel (and other books) are yet to be fulfilled.

Rom. 11.15 Looks forward to this time: “For if their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?” God is redeeming this planet step by step.

  2. Thank-you, Alex. I agree with you that all who believe in Jesus are God’s chosen/elect. But YHVH still has a covenant with the Children of Israel as a nation, which will one day be fulfilled.

Both Jews and Christians — as well as all other people — are in need to have their hope in the gospel, which includes the coming again of the Lord Jesus to establish the Kingdom of God again to Israel, and also over all of the nations. Only then will there be true peace and security based in God’s righteousness.

  3. Israel is a great country to a degree that corruption is dealt with in justice. Israel is a great country in other regards also. Of course, as a Christian, I do not agree with the strong Rabbinic Orthodox (Cheredi) Judaism which exerts undue influence in the nation.

Why the term “Chosen People?” While at its inception, it seems according to the bible, that God did choose the whole nation (solely out of love, I might add, as He does with the rest of His people). However, in history, not all from Israel were God’s people. Some were sons of Belial. So not all of Israel was “Israel.”

God chose Abraham that through his “Seed” all nations would be blessed. That “Seed” was Christ. Anyone, whether Jew or gentile, “in Christ” is the seed of Abraham.
